St. Jerome Center Plans

In the summer of 2007, with support from generous donors, the 12-acre St. Jerome COVE Center was dedicated to help orphaned and vulnerable children through COVE Alliance’s health clinic and education programs.

In August 2008, COVE’s HEALTH CLINIC opened its doors. The six-person staff includes a nurse, two assistants, a midwife, a housekeeper and a security guard. Between August and November, the new clinic treated 535 outpatients and 43 inpatients; 31 babies were delivered. For 2009, there are plans to hire a Physician’s Assistant (PA), so that urgently-needed AIDS treatment can be prescribed and dispensed on site.

In the autumn of 2008, construction began on Phase 1 of a PRIMARY SCHOOL at St. Jerome COVE Center. When Phase I of the project is completed in 2009, two classrooms will serve as temporary dormitories for sponsored children until the permanent dormitory is built. One class will serve as the dormitory for boys and the other will house the girls. Two more classrooms, equipped with chalkboards and desks, will serve as the children’s study rooms.

Relieved of the daily burdens of lengthy walks to and from school and the strenuous chores that start their days at home, the sponsored children will now be able to focus on their studies. They will eat, sleep, study and play together as a family. This community spirit will bind the sponsored children together and help them grow to become hopeful, responsible human beings.

Additional phases of the primary school will eventually include extra classroom blocks, dormitories, outdoor space and staff quarters.
